The US space agency NASA has delayed a landmark mission to Mars by 26 months due to unresolved technical problems.
NASA said the delay in launching the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) would add around 400 million dollars to the cost of the project, pushing its total budget up to around 2.3 billion dollars. The mission rescheduled for 2011 is designed to assess whether the Martian environment is or ever was able to support microbial life.
